Huawei’s goal was to build a zero-emission car from scratch in less than two years, capable of driving more than 3000km across the Australian Outback, and powered entirely by solar energy. There are plenty of reasons to support a project as ambitious, forward-thinking, and impressive as this one.
RenderThat supported the project, working with Huawei, Porsche, and Covestro from the start to the finish line.
Throughout the project things like content, animations, and other PR and marketing materials had to be created before the car itself was even built.
In the early stages of the project, content had to be created in order to find big sponsors like Huawei, Covestro, and Porsche. In the later stages it was important to create lots of marketing and PR material for events, TV interviews, and so on. Throughout this, the car was in constant development leading up to the start of the race.
By providing a dedicated team with automotive experience to the project, and working closely with the Sonnenwagen RWTH Aachen University team, we were able to provide images, car design suggestions, and animations in a short space of time. This was all supported by RenderThat infrastructure, which includes a centralised data asset management system with a variety of approval logics and task assignments.
Despite participating in the race for the first time, the Huawei Sonnenwagen was one of the best teams, with the best content. This content ranged from simple prototyping images to complex technical animations with power flows, technical functionalities, and driving scenes. TV stations, magazines, and sponsors’ websites all featured this content.
