Doepke is an international manufacturer of residual current devices (RCD). An archetype for Germany’s famous Mittelstand (SME), the traditional company located in north-western Germany was among the global pioneers in the development of residual current circuit breakers (RCCB). Today, Doepke offers a wide range of devices as well as several related products.
Over time, the growing number of models and various labelling obligations complicated the uniform visualisation of the devices.
Each model had to be staged in an expensive and tedious process, and new models could not simply be integrated. Instead, it was necessary to take new photos every time a new model was introduced.
Determined to find a more efficient alternative to traditional product photography, Doepke eventually decided to work with RenderThat.
As an expert for CGI pipelines and scalable product visualisations, RenderThat’s task was to find an efficient solution for the creation of 2000 different computer-animated product visualisations.
In comparison with traditional photography, the desired CGI solution should simplify and accelerate future changes and additions to the product range.
Doepke provided the original devices and explained important features to the team. Based on 23 different circuit breaker models, RenderThat then developed the correspondent “digital twins.” The main focus was on the printing area for the inscriptions and labellings.
All critical information such as article description, model, instructions and safety labels would later be printed on this part of the device.
Over the course of the project, RenderThat reacted to special challenges with individual solutions. Its efforts resulted in an efficient system that made it possible to automatically adapt files, save the printing information, and finally also visualise the products.
Different fonts and formats within the data set proved a veritable challenge. RenderThat had to manually adapt the files before initiating the actual automation process. Thanks to the close collaboration between Doepke and RenderThat, the two companies were able to successfully implement even very spontaneous changes.
Through the efficient use of powerful CGI technology as well as the meticulous work of its team, RenderThat was able to replicate all 23 different circuit breaker models with utmost precision and prepare them for the automation process.
The basis for the tailored CGI pipeline was Doepke’s product database, which contained the individual product specifications.
In another automated process, RenderThat created the different digital printing plates and combined them with the already finalised product visualisations. This process allowed for the creation of new product visualisations within only a few seconds.
Thanks to this procedure, Doepke received more than 2000 single images of its products within a very short period of time. The impressive result: The error rate of the first delivery was already below 1%. RenderThat immediately corrected the few remaining inaccuracies, allowing the CGI experts to provide Doepke with a final product of supreme quality.
Before collaborating with RenderThat, Doepke had to prepare each of its numerous circuit breaker models for a tedious product photography process. Due to the natural time lag between the introductions of new products, the photography setting had to be installed from scratch every single time. The consequence: camera perspectives and illumination were never completely identical, making it impossible to recreate the exact same setting for new product images.
Besides impeding the uniform visualisation of Doepke’s products, the previous process was inefficient – it cost substantial amounts of money and took a lot of time.
Thanks to RenderThat’s CGI production, Doepke now possesses flexible digital renderings of its models and is able to adapt any inscriptions and labellings digitally.
The RenderThat CGI pipeline makes it possible to create identical visualisations over a long period of time. This not only saves resources, but also allows for a modern, uniform product presentation.
By cooperating with RenderThat, Doepke uses digital technology to the strategic improvement of its product visualisations. The cooperation’s successful outcome once again highlights the benefits of CGI production over traditional product photography.
Doepke can now digitally manage its products and easily comply with the complex labelling requirements of the electrical industry. In addition, the company is now able to directly present its entire range of circuit breaker models to its B2B clients – via state-of-the-art product visualisations.
Doepke and RenderThat continue their successful cooperation. RenderThat is currently working on an extension of the CGI pipeline as well as additional fields of application. What is already clear: In the near future, Doepke will be able to present its products even faster and more extensively than ever.
By using RenderThat’s CGI pipeline, Doepke successfully integrates digital innovation into its workflows, gaining a valuable strategic advantage.
The company can now visualise its products uniformly, manage them more efficiently, and save considerable costs.
